We ship within 24 hours of receiving an order and provide free worldwide shipping on all orders using Australia Post.

Within Australia

Deliveries within Australia are made via Australia Post. Someone must be at the nominated shipping address to sign for your parcel. We are unable to redirect orders once items have been dispatched. The cost of delivery is included in the purchase price. We will email you with a tracking number when your bag is shipped on orders over $69. Orders under $69 will be posted Registered Australia Post with no tracking.

International deliveries are made via registered Australia Post. There is an AU$30 cost for international shipment. Please be aware that you may have to pay a customs charge in your country.

Delivery timeframes

Australian orders placed on business days will be dispatched within 24 hours and delivered within 2-5 business days.

International orders placed on business days will be dispatched within 24 hours and delivered within 10-15 days. Any orders placed on weekends or public holidays will be dispatched the next business day.


The Bag Department insures each purchase against accidental damage and theft during its transit time from our head office to you. We require a signature upon delivery and once your parcel is signed for the responsibility for your goods is passed onto you.

Import taxes and duties

You as the recipient, are liable for any import taxes and duties of your country. The Bag Department advises that you familiarise yourself with your countries rules and regulations on importing foreign goods and products and its import taxes, duties and customs procedures.

If you are placing an order for a special occassion, let us know in advance so we can do our best to make sure it arrives on time. You can follow the progress of your order at any time by simply signing into your account

We will let you know once your order has been dispatched so that you can make sure you’re available to sign for it upon delivery. You can track your shipment here

Returns policy

We take great pride in the quality and craftsmanship of our bags and carefully inspect each bag before it is shipped to you. If you are not completely satisfied with your order you can send it back to us within 21 days for an exchange or full refund.

Terms of returns:

  • Item must be unused and in resalable condition
  • Item must be in original packaging
  • You must contact us at returns@thebagdepartment.com.au to let us know of your intentions and to receive return instructions.
  • You only need to pay for the return shipping fee
  • We require the returned goods to have a tracking number so that we can ensure they arrive safely 
  • If your item arrives faulty or is deemed to have a manufacturing fault contact us as soon as possible so we can rectify the problem.

At our discretion we will do one of the following for an item deemed faulty:

  • We will fix it for you
  • We will replace it for you
  • We will issue a full refund plus your return shipping expense

Damage caused by wear and tear is not considered faulty

Refunds can only be credited back to the credit card that was used to make the original purchase. The refund will be processed as soon as the bag has been received and inspected by The Bag Department. Please allow 14 days for your account to be credited.

Product warranty

The Bag Department guarantees its bags against any manufacturing defect for 12 months from delivery of your bag.

Our bags are made from natural leather. Damage from normal wear and tear, accidental damage, misuse, abuse, or treatment which is inconsistent with the supplied care instructions, are not covered by the warranty.

If you wish to make a warranty claim please email us at returns@thebagdepartment.com.au with a description of the problem and a photo if possible. If we accept the warranty claim we will advise return instructions.


We do not sell or trade your email address or any other personal information with any other entity. If you have subscribed to our customer email service, we will send you emails regarding special promotions, new merchandise or fashion related information. You can opt out of these following the instructions at the bottom of the email or in your account

The Bag Department uses GeoTrust Secure Socket Layering (SSL) which is the industry standard technology for encryption. SSL encrypts and protects information sent to us over the internet. When SSL is enabled a padlock will appear in the browser showing that the site is in a secure mode. The normal ‘http:’ will also change to ‘https:’ indicating that the site is in secure mode.

We will never store your credit card details as we use eWAY. eWAY is Australia’s leading e-commerce merchant and they process all of our credit card transactions. All other submitted information remains strictly private. We only keep personal details so that you can receive your bag securely and so that we can stay in touch. We will never sell your information or pass it on without your consent. If at any stage you would like to be removed from our mailing list please log in to your Account and select to be unsubscribed.

We use cookies to collect anonymous web traffic information to improve our site. Further information about the Privacy Act 1988 and the National Privacy Principles is available on the Federal Privacy Commissioner's website at: www.privacy.gov.au.

Terms and conditions

Placing Your Order

The Bag Department tries to ensure that the web site accurately reflects the bag styles, colours, leather textures, hardware and any other information on the web site, however it is possible that variations will occur. Colours and texture of leathers used may vary.

Acceptance of Orders

The Bag Department will notify you by email with an order number and receipt for your payment when your order is accepted. We reserve the right to reject any order, at any time, by any person, for any reason, including if we detect an error in a price or description on our web site.


The Bag Department will process your payment at the time you submit your order. Your card payment is processed through the eWAY payment gateway. If you trigger a “chargeback” through your credit card provider, The Bag Department reserves the right to no longer do business with you.

Force Majeure

The Bag Department will not be liable for non fulfillment of any order which is due to circumstances beyond its control. If we have a problem we will notify you and make alternative arrangements for your order.

Governing Law

Any products purchased, or use of the Website shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia.

Communications and Intellectual Property

Any communication that you make to The Bag Department, including without limitation, bag designs, ideas, reviews, comments, suggestions, web site improvements or changes will be treated as non confidential and non proprietary.

By sending us a Communication you grant us, royalty-free, all rights and interests that you may have in the Communication and/or its contents and acknowledge that we may not return it to you or enter into any further correspondence with you in connection with the Communication. By sending us a Communication you warrant that you own the rights to the Communication and you agree to indemnify us against any and all claims arising from your sending us a Communication.

All intellectual property contained in, but not limited to, designs, images, logos, names, materials, web site, remain the property of The Bag Department.
